About Me

I am a physics Ph.D student at the University of Michigan interested in pursuing a career as a physical oceanographer. I am particularly interested in leveraging my training in theoretical and computational physics to study how interactions between the ocean and atmosphere drive climate variability.

I began graduate school studying the physics of developing organisms. I developed simple models to understand how developing multicellular organisms leverage physical principles to robustly develop organs with specific size, shapes, or patterns. I primarily worked with vertex models and fly wing data (see Biophysics section). I first encountered physical oceanography and fluid mechanics projects about halfway through my Ph.D. I found the two topics fascinating, and jumped at the opportunity to work on a project studying the air-sea interface in NASA's MITgcm/GEOS5 coupled climate model. My graduate school work focused on developing spectral methods designed to study air-sea interactions in global, coupled climate models (see Physical Oceanography and Fluid Mechanics ).
